Focusing on strengthening the body with an emphasis on the core, Pilates will also improve your posture, flexibility, mobility and everyday functioning.
Originating from Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century, he developed this practice to improve flexibility, build strength, control, balance and endurance throughout the entire body. He described the core (made up of the abdomen, lower back and hips) as the powerhouse of the body whereby everything transmits through. In order to have a balanced and coordinated body, the powerhouse needs to be strong and mobile.
Over the years, the Pilates practice has evolved and adapted to our new ways of living. With a vast amount of us having desk jobs and maybe not being as active as we should, the practice of Pilates has become more prevalent and evermore usual to us. It can help us to feel stronger, more supple and more mindful than before.
If you’re struggling with mechanical back pain, stiff joints and muscle tightness/pain, Pilates is for you.
Working to connect and be more mindful about our bodies enables us to identify areas where we particularly need to focus our work. Working the whole body in balance to achieve a whole rounded approach to practising Pilates.
Classes are also pregnancy friendly
